Our Team

We are so proud to have some of the best people in Elizabeth City working with us! From high school students washing dishes, running food and greeting guests, to moms and dads cooking food and serving guests, our staff is a wonderful mix of personalities, strengths, history and humor. What we feel is unique to Montero’s and our staff is that the majority of our employees have been with us for over 50% of our restaurant life! Employee retention is important to us and to our staff, so we all work extra hard on making sure that the environment we spend so much time in is a fun, friendly and safe one! We have industry rookies, old timers that have done this for over half of their lives (Andy included) and folks transitioning from old facets of their lives to new ones…and we love them all! We do our best to take care of them, they take care of each other, and we all work hard to take care of you!

Management:

Markeith Cole: Montero’s Kitchen Manager

Markeith has been a part of our team since we opened in November 2005.  He is newly married to wife, Shenita, and has one son Elijah.  Markeith is a graduate of Johnson and Wales University, and with that degree brings a wealth of culinary skills and knowledge.  Along with keeping Andy in line, he keeps the kitchen flowing, guests and staff happy, and always puts out beautiful food.  He has a strong artistic and creative side, which enables him to always send out the most beautifully plated desserts and entrees.  If you happen to walk by the kitchen doors sometime, you may even be lucky enough to hear a beautiful voice serenading you.  That would be Markeith, our resident singer and entertainer.

Sheila Glasscock: Montero’s Front of the House Manager

Sheila has been with us since we opened our doors in 2005, and we call her our “Resident Teacher” and by that I mean our spell checker!  She taught middle school for 14 years before joining our team, and loves to catch mistakes on the Specials Board or on our menus.    Our schedule allowed her more free time to spend with her two children Reilly and Holt, and husband Larry Glasscock.  Sheila has been trained through all the Front of the House positions and generally spends her days here answering phones and keeping things running smoothly.  You will also find her here nights and weekends taking care of guests, running the show, or catering different events.  She handles scheduling, hiring, day to day operations, and the toughest job of all…keeping Andy and Karin in line!  The major downside to her job is that she gets very little reprieve from the Montero’s.  She is Karin’s sister, and is at times punished by having days off and still stuck spending time with the crazy Montero family!

Lori Hopkins: Montero’s Front of the House Manager

Lori has been with us since before Day One.  She joined our team four months before we opened, and helped create what Montero’s is today.  She helped create the framework to the business including, but certainly not limited to operating policies and procedures, picking out tables and chairs, floor plan and dining room layouts, training manuals, menus, bar recipes, hiring policies, and decorating the restaurant.  Lori has helped to hire almost all of our employees and has been the backbone of our business by being knowledgeable in all aspects of what we do here at Montero’s. Lori is happily married to Lee Hopkins, and is a recent graduate from the Nursing Program at College of the Albemarle.  She is our new “Resident Nurse”, and has recently accepted a position at Albemarle Hospital.  We are excited for her new career and are lucky enough to still have her as part of our team as much as her new schedule allows.

Claire Montero: Montero’s Front of the House Manager in Training

Claire has been a part of the Montero’s family since November of 2006, and has just recently started managing with us.  It’s a family rule that you have to be four to manage, so she is just in the beginning stages of her managing career.  She enjoys greeting, hosting, opening the doors for guests, visiting and bussing tables, taste testing, and learning the ropes.  We are so excited for her future at Montero’s and are very proud of her!

Emma Montero: Montero’s Front of the House Manager in Training

Emma has been a part of our team since before we opened our doors in 2005.  Either by stroke of luck or dismay she was born into the Montero Family in 2004, and will be stuck with us forever.  She has been working in the restaurant since she turned four and enjoys hosting, greeting, opening the doors for guests, visiting and bussing tables, catering, taste testing, and keeping all of us in line.  She is an integral part of the Montero’s team, and we are all so proud of her hard work!

TY Parker: Montero’s Kitchen Manager

TY (Tee-Why) has been a part of our team since October 2006 and is definitely a one of a kind for us.  We call him our “Multi-Purpose Weapon.”  He is the only employee trained in almost every position in the restaurant…he can cook anything on our menu, serve guests, run food, cater, train employees, and schmooze guests at the same time.  TY’s laid back demeanor helps keep us, our staff, and our guests calm and cool during busy times.  He is also one of those people that we can always count on doing whatever it takes to get the job done with no complaints, even those early 7:00am breakfast caterings or piles of dishes.  TY is a proud father to Kimari, Tiari, and Sherkwon, and is a great asset to the Montero’s team.

Andrew Stewart: Montero’s Front of the House Manager

Andrew has been a part of the Montero’s team since October 2006.  He started with us as a food runner and has made his way through all the front of the house positions including Server, Bartender, and now Manager.  He was lucky enough to meet his future bride here, Ashley, and they will be married in May 2012.  Andrew gives us a unique perspective for our younger clientele, but has always been very mature and level-headed for his age.  He has a passion for guest service, especially mixology, and it always shows in his work.  We’ve also found him to be our go-to person for strengthening employee morale and incentive ideas.  His competitive nature and endless energy pushes all of us to be better and to strive to be ahead of the game.
