In July, we had the absolute honor of hosting the Hampton Roads chapter of the International Special Event Society members for a night of Kate Spade inspired family fun!
As caterers, we often assist our clients with some design decisions throughout their planning process, but we rarely are actually in charge of making the final overall theme/design decisions, so this event was so fun for us to work on (although, we did comment on several occasions how much we truly appreciate those that do the design work so that we can focus on the food!). We called on our friends at Classy Event Rentals for an appointment in their showroom so that we could put together a decor plan that would be perfect for not only the event professionals attending the event, but their spouses and children, too!
Throughout our Green Room, we had several tables with full-length Black and White Stripe Satin linens and then several tables with full-length Black Polyester Linen with a Black and White Stripe Runner. We also used White Chiavari Chairs to help break up the stripes a bit and the buffet table was a gorgeous gold sequin linen with a chalkboard table top (more on that soon!). Black and White striped Pipe and Drape (also from Classy Event Rentals) was the perfect backdrop for our food display.
The fuchsia napkins added the perfect pop of color alongside the beautiful gold flatware from Distinctive Event Rentals! Luckily, the flowers were one thing we didn’t have to think much about. We gave Todd and Jason from Black Iris Floral Events our “Kate Spade Elegant Picnic” idea and then the green light to do whatever their hearts desired. They put the arrangements in these amazing geometric gold vases which were so perfectly Kate Spade it made our hearts sing! It definitely confirmed our advice we always give couples to give your creative vendors the freedom to create! Magic happens!
Most importantly to us, of course..the FOOD! We had so much fun creating a playful-yet-upscale dinner menu which was displayed beautifully on our chalkboard tabletop! We had many toppings on the Gourmet Hot Dog Bar, including the classics like Ketchup, Mustard, Onions and Pickles, alongside unique toppings like Jalapenos, Onion straws, Cheese Whiz, Pepperocini, Bacon, Arugula, and more! For guests who wanted to try something different, but looked at the sides with wide-what do I do-eyes, we also put together suggested pairings for guests to try like a Chicago or Miami Dog!

After guests enjoyed the Main Course and sides, our staff quickly removed food and display items from the station, flipped the chalkboard table onto it’s other side (to hide all of the descriptions from the previous course) & created the dessert station! This all happened in a matter of minutes! Teamwork makes the dream work! Because everyone was networking and having a great time, attendees were surprised when they turned around and saw a gorgeous doughnut display (Doughnuts from Amazing Glazed!), Andy scooping Gelato, & servers butler passing Boozy Popsicles for those over 21!
After dessert, guests hit the front yard area of the restaurant to have fun! We had Cornhole, Hopper Balls for the kids, and a Giant Jenga board! A huge thank you to everyone who came out and for the Hampton Roads chapter of International Special Event Society for allowing us to host!
